| About me: |
Hi, my name is William E. G. Johnson and because that's a very long name you can simply call me WEGJ. I took that tag in art school because I liked using wedge-like angles when I found myself pencilling and inking my art to give it a comic-edgy look. I am a graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle where I went to school to become a comic illustrator but young and naive I was tricked into becoming a graphic designer (I didn't even know what those were at the time)! Now days I reside in the Pacific Northwest as a designer by day and an illustrator by night hoping to go full time as an illustrator so I can one day sleep again. In the meantime I'm working on two projects that truly have my heart. Electronica is a book that I started almost 10 years ago as a series of short stories about a near future where an oracular being known as "Martian" showed individuals what their lives may have been like if it wasn't for the complex technology that has taken over the modern world. Since the story has evolved into the current story of Electronica, it's become a book that hopes to look at the same themes of human spirit versus man's machine. Like the way I look at life, Electronica is fun at face value, but very serious underneath - because reality is so scary at times you can either choose to laugh or you'll end up crying. The other story I am currently telling is the The Billy Black and Trouble Show updated weekly at http://www.billyblackandtroubleshow.wegjart.com . The comic strip is a fun way to get my wrist going weekly and follows the life of the ever-grumpy Billy Black and his curious cat Trouble, who rightfully earns his name. For a little fun, please check it out! |

I like... Iced cold black espresso, old punk rock, rock, hardcore, emo and even some trance (when I'm drawing) - a good Rufio or Underoath CD will get your wrist moving, 3h-4h lead, my wife Leah and cat Trouble, 90's comics the likes of Ramos, Wieringo, Silvestri, Turner, Capullo, Benitez, classic artists Rockwell and Frazetta, graphic design - and enjoy well designed comic illustration and sequential storytelling. - I enjoy sequential storytelling above all other art mediums because it offers the ability to tell a story, a story can effect people on a deeper level, go with them in places that words and pictures alone cannot. |
